The Organisation
The Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia Limited (AHCSA) is the peak body representing Aboriginal community-controlled health and substance misuse services in South Australia at state and national levels.
Our primary role is to be the ‘health voice’ for all Aboriginal people in South Australia. We achieve this by advocating for the community and supporting workers through our Member Services with appropriate Aboriginal health programs based on a holistic perspective of health.
Summary of the Role
The Student Support Officer is responsible for providing proactive, culturally sensitive, and high-quality support services to students within the RTO. As a primary point of contact, this role offers academic guidance, personal support, and assistance with logistical needs, such as accommodation and travel arrangements, to ensure successful participation in training programs.
The Student Support Officer supports students throughout their entire training journey – from orientation to course progression and completion – enhancing their educational experience and addressing barriers to learning. Committed to delivering responsive and professional support, the Student Support Officer contributes to the overall success of the RTO, maximising the experience of AHCSA students while adhering to organisational policies and procedures.
The Student Support Officer is accountable to and reports to the Manager, Registered Training Organisation. Working under general direction, the position follows established AHCSA procedures, processes, and guidelines to deliver student support services.
This position collaborates closely with all members of the RTO, students, and other AHCSA staff, ensuring a cohesive approach to student welfare and support.
Essential Experience
- Experience in mentoring and supporting Aboriginal students to achieve their learning goals.
- Experience in communicating effectively with clients, staff, and students, including adapting language to suit the audience and utilising culturally safe communication strategies.
- Experience in liaising with a range of external stakeholders and organisations to develop and support student work placements.
- Experience in organising and facilitating peer networks and other strategies to engage Aboriginal students and support their learning experiences.
- Experience in maintaining student record databases (e.g. Student Management System) and reporting on student outcomes.

Desirable Experience/Qualifications
- Experience in the assessment of RPL.
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or a tertiary qualification in a field relevant to the position.
