The Role:
 
We are looking for an experienced General Manager to take full responsibility for the day-to-day management of this well-established and highly successful business. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will play a key leadership role in overseeing all operational aspects of the business, including driving revenue growth, ensure operational excellence, and making sure the company meets both client expectations and financial targets.
 
This is a high-impact role that requires an individual with proven commercial acumen, a deep understanding of blue-collar industries (ideally in steel fabrication and mining), and the ability to lead diverse teams in a complex, multi-divisional business. The General Manager will be responsible for not only managing the operational heads of each division but also driving business development and fostering strong, lasting relationships with key clients and industry stakeholders.
 
Key responsibilities include:

  • Operational Leadership: Lead the day-to-day operations of all five divisions, ensuring efficient and smooth-running operations across the business.
  • Revenue Growth & Business Development: Drive growth by identifying new business opportunities, securing contracts (particularly in the mining sector), and expanding the company’s market share.
  • Commercial Strategy & Financial Management: Oversee the company’s financial performance, including business plans, budgeting, forecasting, and managing P&L across all divisions. Focus on profitability, cost control, and margin improvements.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead and support divisional managers, ensuring they meet business objectives and operational KPIs. Build a high-performance, collaborative culture within the team.
  • Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, ensuring customer satisfaction and repeat business. Act as the primary point of contact for high-profile clients and stakeholders.
  • Contract Management: Lead negotiations and manage large contracts to ensure successful delivery, meeting both budget and timeline requirements.
  • Compliance & Safety: Ensure the business operates in full compliance with industry standards and safety regulations, particularly in steel fabrication and mining-related work.

 About You: 

  • Minimum 8-10 years of senior management experience in a similar-sized business, preferably within steel fabrication, mining, or related industries.
  • Engineering (or related field) qualifications highly desirable and additional business qualifications will be an advantage.
  • Proven experience in labour hire, contract management, and leading multi-divisional businesses.
  • A strong track record in business development, contract acquisition, and managing large-scale client relationships.
  • Commercial acumen with the ability to drive revenue and profitability in a highly competitive environment.
  • A deep understanding of blue-collar industries and operational excellence in managing production, supply chains, and workforce management.
  • Experience in safety and compliance within industrial or construction sectors, particularly those with high-risk environments like steel fabrication and mining.
