Our Client
East Waste is a regional subsidiary of eight South Australian member councils, delivering efficient and reliable waste collection services to communities across metropolitan Adelaide. Governed by a board comprising of representatives from each council, East Waste plays a vital role in providing this essential community service. An opportunity now exists to join the organisation as a Finance Business Partner on a seven‑month fixed‑term contract, arising due to an internal secondment.
The Role
Reporting to the General Manager you’ll be responsible for a wide range of duties including (but not limited to):
- Leading the annual and quarterly budget development and review processes
- Managing all management accounting and reporting requirements, including bespoke analysis such as monthly disposal tonnage reviews and associated invoicing
- Overseeing the month‑end close process, ensuring all reconciliations are accurately completed
- Preparing timely monthly financial reports and insightful analysis for the Executive Leadership Team, Audit & Risk Management Committee and Board
- Working collaboratively with external accountants to prepare financial statements and lodge statutory tax returns (e.g. BAS, GST)
- Monitoring cashflow performance throughout the year and providing timely reporting.
- Providing oversight, guidance and support to the Finance Officer responsible for transactional processes including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll
- Ensuring compliance with all statutory and legislative obligations, and maintaining accurate, well‑governed financial records
- Delivering ad hoc project work to ensure financial policies, procedures and controls remain fit for purpose and regularly updated
- Liaising with Member Councils on a range of finance‑related matters as required
About You
- Tertiary qualifications in commerce, accounting or a related finance discipline are essential
- Demonstrated experience in a hands‑on finance role, including responsibility for financial reporting, analysis, and oversight of transactional processes
- A collaborative, consultative business‑partnering style, with the ability to identify process improvements and provide clear, practical financial advice
- Strong attention to detail and a solid understanding of contemporary accounting standards
- Experience within local government or a similar industry is desirable, though not essential
