East Waste is a regional subsidiary of eight South Australian member councils, delivering efficient and reliable waste collection services to communities across metropolitan Adelaide. Governed by a board comprising of representatives from each council, East Waste plays a vital role in providing this essential community service.
About the Role
Reporting to the General Manager, the Risk & WHS Business Partner provides both strategic and hands-on leadership to strengthen East Waste’s safety culture, simplify systems, support claims and RTW processes, and ensure compliance across all operations.
East Waste is seeking a confident, solutions-focused Risk & WHS Business Partner who thrives in a dynamic operational environment and enjoys working with people at all levels. You will thrive on taking a collaborative approach to supporting the operational workforce, rather than adopting an enforcement-focused stance.
Above all, you will be personable, practical, and brings a genuine “we” mindset. You will be someone who listens, collaborates and helps the team fix issues through coaching, clarity and positive influence. Given the dynamic nature of operations throughout East Waste, this position is ideal for individuals who value diverse responsibilities, demonstrate accountability, and consistently achieve immediate results while ensuring sustained progress over time.
Key focus areas include:
- Leading the continuous improvement of WHS and risk systems
- Working closely with operational teams to support safe practices and embed corrective actions
- Partnering with LGRS to support internal audits and ensure sector compliance
- Delivering engaging training and presenting confidently to Executive, Councils and stakeholders
- Building strong relationships and promoting a helpful, collaborative WHS culture across the organisation
About You
You will be a personable and grounded WHS professional who can build trust quickly and work effectively with diverse groups. You bring:
- Strong WHS experience, ideally in Local Government or similar regulated environments
- Understanding of RTW and incident investigations
- A practical mindset with the ability to simplify processes and drive results
- Excellent communication skills, a sense of humour, and a genuinely supportive approach
- Integrity, resilience and the ability to manage competing priorities with confidence
