The City of Marion is seeking a technically accomplished and commercially astute leader to join its Senior Leadership Team as Manager Engineering, Assets and Environment. About the Role
Reporting to the General Manager City Services, this role leads three multidisciplinary teams: Engineering, Asset Solutions and Environmental Sustainability. You will be responsible for delivering strategic plans, policies and programmes that ensure Marion’s infrastructure is safe, sustainable and future-ready.
You will oversee the management of key assets including stormwater systems, roads, footpaths and retaining walls, while also driving innovation in environmental sustainability and the council’s water business. The role is highly visible, requiring regular site inspections, ward briefings and proactive planning to avoid wasteful expenditure.
This role requires someone who thrives on solving complex problems and enjoys workshopping ideas to stress-test solutions, ensuring they deliver genuine value for both the community and Council. You will collaborate across departments to shift the function from reactive to proactive, identifying opportunities to save money while maintaining high-quality outcomes for residents.
What You Will Bring

- A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering and proven technical competence in infrastructure asset ownership
- The ability to lead and develop asset management strategies that deliver long-term community value
- Political nous and sound judgement to navigate complex stakeholder environments
- A commercial mindset to assess and negotiate deals, particularly within the water business
- The confidence to challenge and debate technical decisions constructively, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability
- Advanced communication skills and a collaborative approach, with comfort working in a modern, inclusive workplace
