Our client, a proudly South Australian-owned designer, manufacturer, and installer of light gauge steel framing solutions, is entering an exciting phase of expansion. With the recent introduction of a second production shift and a growing pipeline of residential and commercial projects, they are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Officer to join their Finance team on a part-time basis (0.4FTE). The Role
Reporting to the Finance Manager and collaborating closely with key internal stakeholders, you will be responsible for the accurate, compliant, and timely end-to-end processing of fortnightly payroll. The role supports both operational and administrative payroll functions and works closely with HR, Finance, and Production to ensure employees are paid correctly and in accordance with all relevant legislation and internal policies.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Managing a set of 3 fortnightly pay runs for salaried and Award employees – including ensuring all timesheets are correctly uploaded and approved in collaboration with the Production Coordinator, and ensuring all ordinary hours for permanent employees are accounted for (including absent hours).
- Ensuring that the applicable awards have been correctly applied.
- Ensuring all overtime work is accurately processed.
- Performing QA procedures on draft pay runs to ensure all applicable approved leave has been accurately processed.
- Managing any employee queries in relation to processed pay runs expeditiously including prompt follow-up with the appropriate employee and Manager.
- Uploading the payroll file for approval and payment.
- Ensuring timely lodgement of STP and superannuation contribution files.
- Managing superannuation contribution lodgement issues in a timely manner.
- Processing and lodging monthly payroll tax returns.
- Processing and lodging annual reconciled payroll tax and workcover returns.
- Processing ad hoc payroll runs on request from management.
- Maintaining accurate payroll records and ensure compliance with Fair Work Act legislation and company policies.
- Onboarding and offboarding employees using Employment Hero HR ensuring full synchronisation with Employment Hero Payroll.
- Liaising with internal stakeholders and external bodies including the ATO, Revenue SA, Return to Work, Workforce Australia, HIA, Beam, Employment Hero, and auditors.
- Assisting with process improvement tasks and special projects to further enhance the function.
About You
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in end-to-end payroll processing.
- Strong understanding of payroll legislation, and of the Manufacturing and Associated Industries and Occupations Award 2020 (desirable).
- Working knowledge of Employment Hero (desirable) or similar cloud based solution.
- High attention to detail, strong numeracy skills, and the ability to manage deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively across the business.
